NHS 2017 membership

All documentation of hours is due to Mr. Golish no later than May 1, 2019. Remember:
Returning NHS members must complete TWENTY-FIVE hours of community service between May 1, 2018 and April 30, 2019.
NHS members inducted in October 2018 are responsible for completing TEN hours of community service between September 5, 2018 and April 30, 2019.

Congratulations to the following students on being selected to join the DHS NHS!! The Induction Ceremony will be at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 in the Dick Van Dyke Auditorium.

 Joining the Danville High School chapter of the National Honor Society

The 2018-2019 application window is now closed. 

All DHS students entering grades 10, 11, and 12 who have attended DHS for at least one semester with cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 are eligible to apply for membership in the DHS NHS. 
A minimum of FIVE (5) hours of community service are required to apply. Students must write an essay in response to a specific prompt. 
DHS faculty members are asked to give feedback on the applicants prior to final selection. The five-member faculty council reviews all applications and essays and selects the inductees. Any students not selected for membership are encouraged to see Ms. Seibert for feedback and are welcome to apply for membership the following year.

Volunteer opportunities - Spring / Summer 2019

Liberty Elementary Reading Night 
A book tasting and spaghetti dinner on Thursday, May 16th from 5:30 to 7:00. We were hoping to get some of the honor society students to volunteer and assist with serving, reading selections of books at our "tasting tables" and help with the book walk.  Contact Kari Talbott at Liberty Elementary (444-3029) for more details.

DHS Cafeteria Share Table
Volunteers are needed to help with the share table during breakfast and lunch each day. See Beth Brown, kitchen manager, to volunteer.

Fair Hope Ministry - Bowman Ave. Methodist Church

Danville Farmer's Market - spring, summer, and fall

Humane Society of Danville

Arts in the Park 2019 (6/21-6/23 at Lincoln Park)
Volunteers are needed for the Children's Tent, Hospitality / Information Tent, and Artist Check-in.  Contact Karen McGinnis at 597-1254

Vermilion County Animal Shelter
Volunteers are needed for various responsibilities. Must be at least 18 years old. Contact Melanie Clawson at 431-2660 or .

Northeast Elementary
Volunteers are needed to assist making homemade lava lamps, dancing raisins, and gummy bears. We are looking for is volunteers to man / supervise stations ad assist students.  Contact Markesha Parker 444-3051 with questions.

Danville Public Library - Teen Zone
Volunteers are needed to assist at the refreshment table.  There may be additional opportunities to explore the Teen Zone and create in the Makerspace during the event.  The open house is Saturday, March 2 from 10A-2P.  It would be helpful for volunteers to arrive at least 15 minutes early.  Contact Jennifer Hess the assistant director of the library at 477-5220 x118 if you have any questions.
